After feeding Simplot's shift teams since 2023, The Food Hub catered their 100 year site celebration in Bathurst in September 2026: 1,760 guests, two larger trucks and a menu built for a big regional workforce.
In short: Simplot has trusted The Food Hub with their staff catering since 2023, from shift feeds at their Kelso plant to their 100 year site celebration in Bathurst on 19 September 2026, where we fed 1,760 guests from two larger trucks. They're already looking to have us back in December.
Key Takeaways
Some clients you win once. Simplot we have kept.
It started with the night shift. Simplot's plant at Kelso, just outside Bathurst, runs around the clock, and they needed a truck that could roll in and feed the day, afternoon and night crews without holding up the line. Halal and vegetarian sorted, no fuss, fresh off the grill. We did that first site day back in 2023, and they had us back.
Since then we have made the drive west more times than we can count. Site celebrations, thank you days for the team, a truck parked up feeding shift after shift.
It is a three hour run from Sydney each way, so more often than not the crew heads up the day before and is ready before the first shift clocks on. That is the bit that keeps a client for years. They know we will turn up, every time, wherever they are.
In September 2026 it stepped right up. Simplot's Bathurst site turned 100, and it was a proper milestone. The site is the original home of Edgell, canning veg there since 1926. They booked us to cater the celebration and we fed 1,760 people across the day. For a crowd that size we brought two of our larger trucks and a menu planned for it: Rangers Valley wagyu brisket and fries, gochujang popcorn fried chicken, and loaded fries, with halal and veg planned in from the start so nobody missed out.
The number that matters
1,760 guests fed. Two trucks. One 100 year milestone, in a town three hours from home.
Really well. The Simplot team were thrilled, and afterwards they sent us an email to say how much everyone loved the food and how much they appreciated the service. After a three hour drive and 1,760 people fed, that's a nice email to open.
And they're not done with us. They're already looking to have us back in December, and again next year.
Here is the bit that matters if you run a big site. Feeding hundreds of people is not the hard part. Doing it again and again, on time, without a fuss, is. That is what turns a one off booking into a client you keep for years.
Simplot did not hand us their 100 year celebration on day one. We earned it, one shift at a time. We turned up when we said we would, fed everyone properly, cleaned up and got out of the way. Do that enough times and the big jobs follow.
If you run a distribution centre or a plant with a team to feed, that is exactly how we like to work. Start with a staff day, see how we go, and build from there.
A plant celebration in Bathurst is a long way from a city office lunch, and it asks for a different sort of caterer. You need one who can travel, cook at volume, and cover every dietary need in the crowd without slowing down.
We have cooked for Woolworths, Coles, Bunnings, Amazon, Commonwealth Bank, Sony and Toyota, from tight office lunches to festivals of tens of thousands. Big teams, big numbers, and plenty of people who can tell fresh food from food that has been sitting around.
If you are planning a staff day, a site milestone or a regional event, here is what to ask before you book a caterer, and here is how we handle corporate catering across Sydney.
Yes. Sydney metro has no travel fee, and we regularly head to regional NSW. We cater Simplot in Bathurst, a three hour drive each way, and we travel further for the right event. Anything past about an hour and a half's drive of our Lakemba base carries a clear travel component in the quote, so there are no surprises.
Yes. A single truck comfortably feeds 60 to 600 guests, and for bigger crowds we add trucks, such as the two larger trucks for Simplot's 100 year celebration and its 1,760 guests. We also feed rolling shift changeovers at plants and distribution centres, across day, afternoon and night.
Yes. We plan halal and vegetarian options into every menu and are happy to talk through what suits your crowd. We are not formally halal certified, but our snack pack truck runs all halal, and we always make sure everyone can eat.
The earlier the better for big dates. Popular months book out, so for a large staff day, a site milestone or a Christmas party, reach out as early as you can and we will hold your date.
